Bayern had taken the lead through German teenage winger Lennart Karl, one of the most exciting young talents in the country. Elversberg, however, refused to be overawed by the champions and levelled just past the hour mark when Maurice Krattenmacher whipped a superb curling effort beyond the goalkeeper. With the home side enjoying a perfect start to their first ever top-flight campaign, an upset suddenly felt possible.

But Kane had other ideas. The stand-in skipper found space inside the box and finished clinically to restore Bayern's advantage. After failing to score in his previous two league outings, the striker brought an end to an uncharacteristic drought, especially given the 36 Bundesliga goals he plundered last season.

Leipzig run riot against struggling Hamburg

In the other standout Bundesliga fixture, RB Leipzig bounced back from their midweek Champions League defeat with a dominant 5-0 home victory over Hamburg. Norwegian winger Antonio Nusa was the pick of the bunch, scoring once and providing two assists, including one for Christopher Nkunku, who netted his first goal since returning to the club in August.

Tidiam Gomis, Willi Orban and Rômulo also found the net for Marco Rose's side, who climbed to fifth in the table. Hamburg suffered their third consecutive heavy defeat and now sit bottom of the standings with a worrying -12 goal difference.

Sassuolo stun Juventus with stoppage-time drama

Serie A produced one of the shocks of the season at the Mapei Stadium, where Alberto Aquilani's Sassuolo edged Juventus 3-2 in a breathless finale. Sebastiano Esposito broke the deadlock in the 65th minute after Nemanja Matic threaded a precise pass into the box for the striker to finish coolly.

Juve drew level in the 82nd minute through Edon Zhegrova, who tapped into an empty net after goalkeeper Arijanet Muric misjudged a cross. Sassuolo reclaimed the lead when Scottish forward Kieron Bowie curled a first-time effort into the corner in the 89th minute. Zhegrova appeared to have snatched a point for Juventus with a stoppage-time strike from the edge of the area, but Vasilije Adzic had the last word: four minutes into added time, he bent a magnificent shot into the far corner to seal a remarkable home win with virtually the final kick.

Napoli and Lecce find relief in mid-table

Napoli ended a three-match losing streak with a 1-0 home victory over Bologna at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Stanislav Lobotka struck the second-half winner after Arthur Theate's early header for the visitors was ruled out for offside by VAR.

Lecce also celebrated a home win, beating Monza 3-2 thanks to a brace from Lassana Coulibaly. The Italian matchday concludes on Monday with Inter hosting Udinese, Como facing Parma and Roma travelling to Torino.

Barcelona, Atlético and PSG all come through

In Spain, Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the La Liga season with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Levante in Valencia. Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal gave the visitors a two-goal cushion inside 19 minutes, and Yamal converted a penalty just 42 seconds into the second half. Levante pulled goals back through Iván Romero and Roger Brugue, but Karim Adeyemi's mazy run and finish in the 93rd minute ended any hopes of an improbable comeback.

Atlético Madrid left it late to beat Real Sociedad 3-0, with new signings Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David scoring their first goals for the club. Grimaldo converted a penalty on 84 minutes and David doubled the lead on the break six minutes later, before Giuliano Simeone added a third deep into stoppage time. Diego Simeone's side were without Julián Álvarez and Pablo Barrios due to muscle injuries.

In France, Paris Saint-Germain claimed their first Ligue 1 win of the season at the fourth attempt with a 1-0 success at Brest. Ferran Torres continued his fine start to life with the European champions, scoring after five minutes following slick interplay with João Neves and Ousmane Dembélé. The Spanish forward has now netted six goals in five appearances, and PSG climb to seventh after opening their league campaign with two draws and one defeat.
