In Leeuwarden the situation was even more serious. Visiting fans threw fireworks from their section towards the pitch and towards home supporters, leaving seven people injured with burns, eye damage and hearing problems. Authorities warned that pyrotechnics are increasingly used as a weapon, a practice that demands a firm response.
