Real Madrid players celebrate one of three late goals that sealed their comeback win against Roma

Real Madrid produced a stunning late turnaround at the Stadio Olimpico, scoring three times in the final six minutes to beat Roma 4-3 after trailing 3-1. All three goals came from corners, leaving José Mourinho empty-handed in a dramatic Champions League night.

  • Real Madrid scored three goals between the 84th and 90th minutes to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 win.
  • Carlos Espí, Endrick and Antonio Rüdiger completed the comeback from corner routines.
  • Donyell Malen struck twice in six minutes for Roma, who controlled long spells of the game.
  • Bodø/Glimt extended their home fortress record by beating Borussia Dortmund 1-0.
  • Shakhtar Donetsk opened their Stamford Bridge European era with a 3-1 win over AEK Athens.

Roma 3-4 Real Madrid: comeback in six minutes

The night began awkwardly for Real Madrid. Marten de Roon gave Roma a deserved lead, but Kylian Mbappé levelled before the break on his 100th Champions League appearance.

When Donyell Malen scored twice in six minutes early in the second half, the 15-time European champions looked buried. The stadium was celebrating and Madrid had no answer for Roma's aggressive rhythm.

"You could say there were two games in one. Roma were better in all aspects early on. When it was 3-1 everyone probably thought the game was over."

Corners become Real Madrid's lethal weapon

The fightback arrived through set pieces. Carlos Espí, Endrick and former Roma defender Antonio Rüdiger all found the net late on to silence the Stadio Olimpico. Every goal started from a corner.

Mourinho, warmly received by the home crowd after two and a half years at the club that included a Conference League title, watched his side fall apart in the closing minutes of Roma's first home European tie in more than seven years.

Bodø/Glimt beat Dortmund at their fortress

A 52nd-minute strike from Fredrik Sjøvold gave Bodø/Glimt a 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund. The Norwegians started the second half strongly and held off a late push from the 2024 Champions League runners-up.

Defeat on the artificial turf of the 8,200-capacity Aspmyra Stadium is no longer a rare upset. Manchester City, Inter Milan and Sporting have all fallen there in recent seasons. The smallest venue in the competition has become one of Europe's toughest away trips.

"There's nothing we can complain about, we deserved to lose. We didn't bring enough passion today – that's something Bodø did much better. They took the lead and after that we woke up, but by then it was too late."

Shakhtar open London era with victory

Shakhtar Donetsk marked the start of their Champions League residency at Stamford Bridge with a come-from-behind 3-1 win over AEK Athens. Lovro Majer put the Greek side ahead in the 28th minute, but Pedrinho equalised from the penalty spot six minutes later.

Vinicius Tobias made it 2-1 from a tight angle with about ten minutes remaining. Substitute Gleiker Mendoza then sealed the win with a powerful finish after cutting in from the left.

The club from eastern Ukraine have moved their European home to Chelsea's ground while the London club are absent from continental competitions this season. Ukrainian fans living in the UK turned out in force, pushing attendance to 29,000.
