Troy Parrott turned his first Champions League appearance into one to remember. The Republic of Ireland forward scored the winner as Real Betis fought back to beat Lille 3-2, just four days after his late strike had sealed a 1-0 home victory over Real Madrid in LaLiga.

Parrott joined the Spanish club from AZ Alkmaar this summer and has wasted little time in making his presence felt. His goal in France, a low left-footed finish across the goalkeeper in the 54th minute, completed the comeback and underlined his fast start to life in Seville.

The 24-year-old produced a composed finish shortly after the restart. He collected the ball with room to move, shifted inside and drove a low left-footed shot across goal into the far corner. His European winner came only four days after he scored in the 81st minute against Real Madrid, securing a 1-0 win at the Benito Villamarín. Lille led twice before going down to ten men

The French side struck early, in the 12th minute, and regained the lead through Alexsandro in the 37th. Marc Bartra scored twice for Betis in between, keeping the Spanish side in a contest that swung from end to end. Ethan Mbappe, the brother of Kylian, was later sent off for an elbow to the face of an opponent, leaving Lille with ten players.

Real Madrid and Mourinho open their Champions League campaign with a win

At the Bernabeu, Kylian Mbappe scored his first Champions League goal of the campaign as Real Madrid edged past Inter Milan in an increasingly open contest. Curtis Jones gave the ball away under pressure and Yann Bisseck was caught in trouble; Brahim Diaz reacted quickly to release Mbappe, who finished with certainty.

The second goal was harder for Inter to take. Goalkeeper Josep Martínez attempted a back-heel inside his own six-yard box while Federico Valverde closed him down, and the tireless midfielder poked the ball over the line as he made the tackle. Carlos Augusto pulled a goal back after the break from Lautaro Martínez's low cross, but Thibaut Courtois made several important saves to preserve the win.

The result gave José Mourinho his first Champions League victory since starting his second spell at the Bernabeu, more than 13 years after his previous one in the competition at the club.

Dortmund and AEK Athens also start with wins

Elsewhere, Serhou Guirassy scored a late double to give Borussia Dortmund a 3-2 home victory over Villarreal. Renato Veiga had found his own net and the Spanish side levelled before Guirassy's decisive contribution. In Athens, a free kick from Razvan Marin earned AEK a 1-0 win against LASK.
